Wind Turbine Surge Protection

Wind turbines are comprised of multiple sensative electrical and electronic circuits. With just one of these circuits damaged most turbines cease to produce energy.

Due to their exposed locations and typical height, wind turbines are often the target of lightning strikes. When planning lightning protection not only should lightning rods be used but electronic surge protection devices. Studies show that lightning rods alone cannot protect critical components and although a large amount of the energy is diverted away with them damage is still likely. Using electronic surge protection devices in conjunction with lightning rods you can provide a higher level of surge protection.
