Max DC Surge Protector 60V

3 stage protection device designed to protect DC electrical systems ONLY (Please verify correct application before ordering).

This device is rated to protect against EMP, ESD, CME, and Lightning damage. The surge protector works like a flood control gate on a lake. On a lake once the water level reaches a maximum level the extra water is diverted and the lake level is maintained at a safe level. The surge protector does this by shunting the extra voltage away from your electrical circuit allowing it to operate as normal.

FAQ

What is the MAXDC60V mainly used for?

The MAXDC60V is used to help protect low-voltage DC electrical circuits and equipment from damaging surge events. Common applications include solar/PV systems, battery systems, DC power supplies, off-grid systems, telecom equipment, industrial DC equipment, low-voltage DC panels, marine DC electronics, RV DC systems, LED lighting systems, and other compatible DC circuits.

What voltage is the MAXDC60V designed for?

The MAXDC60V is designed for DC electrical circuits that require a maximum 60VDC protection ceiling. The protected circuit should have a normal operating voltage below the 60VDC clamping level and should not normally operate at or near the 60VDC rating of the device.

Can the MAXDC60V be used on solar systems?

Yes. The MAXDC60V may be used on compatible low-voltage DC solar/PV circuits where the normal operating voltage is below the 60VDC protection ceiling and the installation matches the product ratings and wiring requirements.

Can the MAXDC60V be used with batteries or inverters?

Yes. The MAXDC60V may be used on compatible DC battery, inverter, charger, and power supply circuits that operate below the 60VDC protection ceiling. Always verify voltage, polarity, and circuit protection before installation.

What does the 500KA rating mean?

The 500KA rating refers to the surge current capacity of the device. The MAXDC60V is designed to help protect compatible low-voltage DC circuits from damaging surge events when properly installed.

Is the MAXDC60V a Type 1 or Type 2 surge protector?

The MAXDC60V is designed for Type 1 and Type 2 surge protection applications on compatible DC electrical circuits when installed according to the product instructions and applicable electrical codes.

How is the MAXDC60V wired?

The MAXDC60V has two wires: red and black. The red wire connects to the positive side of the DC circuit, and the black wire connects to the negative side of the DC circuit.

Does the MAXDC60V connect to ground?

No. The MAXDC60V does not connect to ground. It is designed to connect between the positive and negative conductors of the DC circuit. This design helps avoid creating a hazardous short circuit or electrical shock hazard in the event of device failure.

Is polarity important when installing the MAXDC60V?

Yes. The MAXDC60V is polarized. The red wire must be connected to positive and the black wire must be connected to negative. Always verify polarity before energizing the circuit.

Where should the MAXDC60V be installed?

The MAXDC60V can be installed on compatible DC electrical systems that require a maximum 60VDC protection ceiling. It is commonly installed near the equipment, circuit, or DC power source being protected.

Does the MAXDC60V require a fuse or circuit breaker?

The electrical circuit should have appropriate overcurrent protection, such as a properly rated fuse or circuit breaker, as required for the DC circuit and installation. The surge protector does not replace required circuit protection.

What do the indicator lights mean?

The MAXDC60V includes green and red indicator lights. Green means the surge protector is functioning correctly. Red means the surge protector needs to be replaced.

Can the MAXDC60V be installed outdoors?

The MAXDC60V is intended for indoor installation. Install the device in a suitable protected location according to the product instructions and applicable electrical requirements.

Does the MAXDC60V protect against lightning or electromagnetic surge events?

Yes. The MAXDC60V is designed to help protect compatible DC circuits against normal surge events, indirect lightning related surge activity, and EM-related surge events such as EMP, CME, and solar flare related electrical disturbances.

Can the MAXDC60V be used on AC power?

No. The MAXDC60V is designed for compatible DC electrical circuits only. Do not use this device on AC power.

Can the MAXDC60V be used above 60VDC?

No. Do not use the MAXDC60V on circuits that exceed the product rating. The protected DC circuit should normally operate below the 60VDC protection ceiling.

Can the MAXDC60V be opened or modified?

No. Do not open, modify, or tamper with the MAXDC60V. If the device is damaged, has been improperly connected, or indicates replacement is needed, it should be replaced.

Who should install this product?

This product should be installed by a qualified installer, electrician, technician, or other person familiar with DC electrical systems, polarity, overcurrent protection, and the equipment being protected.

Does this product include a warranty?

Bad Wolf surge protection devices include a 5-year product warranty. Eligible products may also include connected equipment warranty coverage when properly installed and registered according to the warranty terms.
